Qaitbay Citadel

The history of this fortress is fascinating. The Qaitbay citadel was built in the 15 th of the century to stop the armed forces of Ottoman, but the fortress never plays any role in that historical moment. The Ottoman took control of all of Egypt in the year 1512. The Qaitbay citadel still stands on his feet at his location at the harbour of Alexandria. Qaitbay citadel is a defensive fortress that is situated on the Mediterranean Sea shoreline. The fortress was built on the ruined structure of the lighthouse that is located in Alexandria. The fortress name was kept by the great Sultan Qaitbay, who made this fortress for the sake of saving Alexandrians from the extreme danger.

The existing situation of the Qaitbay citadel:

In 1882, the British armed force attacked the city, and because of heavy bombardment, they left it in terrible condition. The present one is not its original form but modified by the time. It was rebuilt after the British left the place. The location of this amazing fortress is very fantastic because of its presence on the seashore.

Construction:

The construction of this citadel is exciting because of its unique way of forming the whole fortress. The first support of any place could be its pillar, but here in the citadel due to the large size granite was used as the beam and doors. The red granite was also used in the central columns lines.

Qaitbay citadel is not any under army supervision or their control. In the present time, the fortress is hosting a museum that carries all the maritime history and stuff. It may be more worthy if the management takes the visitors inside the place and people use to do their own experience of history and culture.
